Make new friends! Develop hidden talents! Learn new skills!

We’re turning Mitcham Inside Out!

Exciting news! Our summer production is coming soon!

MITCHAM INSIDE OUT is the story of three local young people who are frustrated with their lives.

Isaac lives on his phone, Alexia hates school and Piper thinks Mitcham is boring- nothing exciting ever happens here.

Then one Hallowe’en night they find themselves in an alternative Mitcham, ruled over by a cruel and heartless Empress, where kindness is a crime and everything good has gone forever...

...Can they work together to save Mitcham?

Join us for an hilarious and hair-raising fantasy journey through the streets of Mitcham, which is scarily familiar and frighteningly alien.

MITCHAM INSIDE OUT has been developed with over 50 young people from across Merton. This is "home-grown" Mitcham theatre and we are very excited to share it with you.

Stories From Our Streets!

STORIES OF OUR STREETSFLYER1.jpg

Since September 2025 we’ve been working with local schools to encourage local young people to tell their stories about Mitcham and its streets, parks and playgrounds.

After two visits from a professional writer, we challenged the children to create their own Mitcham tales and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. We’ve published as many of them as we can!

READ THEM ALL HERE!

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Stories of our Streets launched in April 2025 with an interactive exhibition of photographic works by young members of Mitcham Town Camera Club, curated by artist and photographer Cindy Sacha and staged at Canons House & Grounds, capturing and celebrating life on Mitcham’s streets.

Pupils from 8 local schools visited the exhibition, followed up with a programme of in-school writing workshops encouraging pupils to create their own poetry, prose and drama on the theme of “The Story of my Street”.

FIRST STEPS AT MITCHAM CARNIVAL!

Summer is here, and it wouldn’t be the same without Mitcham Carnival! This year, we were on stage at 3.30pm, and our dancers presented an upbeat, high-energy, super fun commercial/street dance performance! The performance was choreographed by our Dance Leader, Sara Ramirez, and was an inclusive, fun, high-energy dance piece which raised everyone’s spirits and spread the love!

CONGRATULATIONS ANDY!

After working in the arts for 47 years, GAC Manager Andy Alty has decided that he will be retiring from full-time work in July 2026 and handing GAC on to the next generation of community artists.

Andy has been running Green Arts Centre since it first opened in summer 2021. His dream was to create a “one stop shop” where young people could get involved in theatre music and dance. Since then, Green Arts Centre has welcomed over 1500 young people into the building and run many innovative art, theatre and writing projects with schools and other local partners.

Green Arts Centre is now a valued arts venue for young people and will continue into the future.

Thanks Andy. We wish you a happy and healthy retirement!

TWIST

Looking back on our big show of 2025, TWIST which played to a full house of over 120 people.

All three groups were involved in the production and they delivered a brilliant show with some wonderful performances. Here’s a selection of the best images from the show.

TELLING THE STORY OF OUR STREETS…

Our Arts Council-funded Stories of our Streets project reached its climax with pupils from five Mitcham schools creating their own stories set in and around Mitcham.

They came up with some wonderfully imaginative stories and we are publishing ALL of them here.

One school, Wimbledon College chose to create a short film which we are also featuring here.

All the images you see here were taken by local young people as part of the project.

Green Arts Centre has been a lifeline for my son, a refugee from Ukraine. Before joining, he was shy and struggled with English. The center's creative atmosphere has boosted his confidence and helped him express himself. It's been amazing to see him blossom! The high artistic standards and supportive staff have made a huge difference in his life. I'm incredibly grateful for the positive impact Green Arts Centre has had on him.
