Make new friends! Develop hidden talents! Learn new skills!

Welcome to our new Leaders!

This term we welcome our two new leaders;

GREEN ARTS CENTRE YOUTH THEATRE AND DANCE CLUB ARE BACK!

Our 2025-26 programme started on 29th September and all three of our groups are full of excited young people ready to act, sing and dance.

FIRST STEPS DANCE has a packed and exciting year planned – performing at New Wimbledon Theatre on 25th January 2026, at Mitcham Carnival on  June 28th and of course in our final production at Green Arts Centre on 5th July.

GAC YOUTH THEATRE & GAC YOUNG ACTORS COMPANY will be creating songs and stories inspired by the Stories of our Streets project and creating their own home-grown musical. We can’t wait to share it with you!

TWIST!

Our big performance this year was Twist! which played to a full house of over 120 people in July. All three groups were involved in the production and they delivered a brilliant show with some wonderful performances. As ever our favourite photographer @andybarker was there to capture the magic. Here is a selection of the best images from the show.

STORIES OF OUR STREETS – tell us your Mitcham tales!

Our Stories of our Streets project is now in full swing! We are already running writing sessions in Mitcham schools, encouraging our young people to tell stories of their streets, parks and playgrounds. We’re interested in poems, prose and drama pieces and we will feature them here and in a printed booklet as well as on stage and film.

If you have a Mitcham story you want to see in print or on stage, send it to andrew.alty@cricketgreen.merton.sch.uk

STORIES OF OUR STREETS - Design a poster!

Calling all budding artists!  We need an image for all our printed and online publicity information, promoting our final events in July 2026. These can be hand-drawings and paintings or created by using online tools.

We are looking for a visually arresting image which tells the "story" of our borough - it could be a well-known landmark, a park or a playground, a local street or simply a group of friends eating chips at the bus stop! We encourage original ideas and are very keen to see images which tell us about Mitcham.

Dates are as follows;

COMPETITION OPENS: 5th JANUARY 2026

CLOSES: 6th MARCH

WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED: 27th MARCH

POSTER PRODUCED & DISTRIBUTED: 27th APRIL

PERFORMANCES: 3rd  AND 5th JULY

GOODBYE AND THANKS TO TWO BRILLIANT DIRECTORS

In July we said goodbye to our two wonderful Youth Theatre leaders, Ed Hill and Rachael Black. Ed has been our director for three amazing years and over that time has built a friendly, creative and vibrant Youth Theatre and created some thrilling and innovative productions. We wish him huge success at British Youth Music Theatre.

We also say a fond farewell to Rachael Black, who has been running our Young Actors Company for the last two years. Rachael is a multi-talented director, writer and practitioner and has been so important in establishing this new group. Thanks Rachael and good luck with all your writing projects in North East England!

We will miss you both!

Green Arts Centre has been a lifeline for my son, a refugee from Ukraine. Before joining, he was shy and struggled with English. The center's creative atmosphere has boosted his confidence and helped him express himself. It's been amazing to see him blossom! The high artistic standards and supportive staff have made a huge difference in his life. I'm incredibly grateful for the positive impact Green Arts Centre has had on him.
